Botox vs Daxxify

The short answer

Both are botulinum toxin type A. Both smooth frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet by relaxing the muscle underneath. Botox has been in use since 1989 and is the product most injectors know best. Daxxify (daxibotulinumtoxinA, Revance) was approved in 2022 and is formulated with a peptide instead of human albumin, which is the reason it lasts longer. How long it lasts

This is the real difference. In the SAKURA phase 3 trials, Daxxify's median duration for frown lines was 24 weeks, and about half of patients still had a visible effect at six months (Carruthers et al., Dermatologic Surgery, 2020). Botox's label and decades of experience put it at three to four months. In our chairs, Daxxify patients come back twice a year; Botox patients three or four times.

Cost per year

Because Daxxify uses roughly two units for every one unit of Botox, a single visit costs more. Over a year it evens out or slightly favours Daxxify for people who would otherwise come in four times. For someone happy at three Botox visits a year, Botox is a little cheaper. Alina will do the arithmetic for your dose.

Where each one wins

Choose Botox if you are new to wrinkle relaxers and want a shorter commitment while you learn how you like to look; you are treating small, precise areas such as a lip flip, gummy smile or bunny lines where control matters more than duration; or you have a medical use such as migraines, jaw clenching or sweating, where Botox has the approvals and the dosing data.

Choose Daxxify if you know exactly what you want and are tired of booking every three months; you travel or live far from the office; or Botox has started wearing off faster for you than it used to.

Side effects and limits

The same for both: small bruises, a headache for a day, and a low risk of a heavy brow or eyelid if product drifts, which wears off. Daxxify's longer duration cuts both ways: a result you do not like also lasts longer. Neither is used in pregnancy or with certain neuromuscular conditions. Our view

We use Botox for most first-timers and for every small or medical area, and Daxxify for established patients treating frown lines and forehead who want two visits a year instead of four. Prices for both are on the price list.
