Microneedling Pre and Post Care Instructions
Microneedling Pre and Post Care Instructions
Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that stimulates collagen and elastin production by creating controlled microchannels in the skin. It is commonly used to improve fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, skin texture, pigmentation concerns, and overall skin quality.
Following these instructions will help maximize your results and promote proper healing.
Pre Care
Avoid Sun Exposure (1 Week Before)
Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunburn for at least one week before treatment.
Sunburned or irritated skin should not be treated.
Discontinue Retinol And Exfoliants (5–7 Days Before)
Stop using retinol, tretinoin, adapalene, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and other exfoliating products.
These products may increase skin sensitivity and irritation during treatment.
Avoid Waxing And Hair Removal (1 Week Before)
Do not wax, thread, use depilatory creams, or perform aggressive hair removal in the treatment area.
This helps prevent unnecessary skin irritation.
Avoid Chemical Peels And Laser Treatments (2 Weeks Before)
Avoid chemical peels, laser procedures, IPL, and other aggressive skin treatments before your appointment.
The skin should be fully healed before undergoing microneedling.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment.
Hydrated skin typically responds better to treatment and healing.
Arrive With Clean Skin
Arrive with a clean face free of makeup, sunscreen, lotions, or skincare products whenever possible.
Inform Your Provider
Inform your provider if you have active acne breakouts, cold sores, skin infections, recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use, pregnancy, or any medical condition that may affect healing.

Post Care
Expect Redness And Sensitivity
Your skin may appear red and feel similar to a mild to moderate sunburn for 24–72 hours.
Mild swelling, tightness, dryness, and sensitivity are normal parts of the healing process.
Keep The Skin Clean
Avoid touching your face unnecessarily after treatment.
Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water when cleansing the skin.
Avoid Makeup (24 Hours)
Do not apply makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment.
This allows the microchannels to close and reduces the risk of irritation or infection.
Use Gentle Skincare Products
Use only gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and products recommended by your provider.
Avoid active ingredients until the skin has fully recovered.
Avoid Retinol And Exfoliants (5–7 Days After)
Do not use retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C serums, exfoliating scrubs, or other potentially irritating products until your skin has healed.
Avoid Excessive Heat (48 Hours)
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, hot yoga, and prolonged hot showers.
Heat can increase redness and inflammation.
Avoid Strenuous Exercise (24–48 Hours)
Heavy workouts may increase redness, swelling, and irritation during the early healing period.
Avoid Direct Sun Exposure
Protect your skin from the sun during the healing process.
Sun exposure can increase the risk of pigmentation complications.
Wear SPF Daily
Once the skin is no longer irritated, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day.
Sun protection is critical for maintaining your results.
Do Not Pick Or Peel The Skin
Some dryness, roughness, or light flaking may occur as the skin renews itself.
Allow the skin to shed naturally and avoid picking or scrubbing.
Stay Hydrated
Continue drinking plenty of water after treatment.
Proper hydration supports skin repair and recovery.
Be Patient With Results
Many patients notice brighter and smoother skin within the first week.
Collagen production continues for several weeks after treatment, with improvements in texture, scars, fine lines, and skin quality becoming more noticeable over time.
Multiple treatments are often recommended for optimal results.
